Screenshot your directions before you leave town
GPS has sent people more than twenty miles wrong out here, and there is no cell service in the canyon to check once you are out of range. Take a picture of this page, or write the turns down.
We are 1.5 miles from the entrance to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, off Utah Highway 211. About an hour and a half from Moab.
Coming south from Moab
- 1.Highway 191 south for about 37 miles.
- 2.Turn right onto US Highway 211 — not the turn for Needles Overlook, but the next right, a couple of miles past it.
- 3.Twelve miles along 211. Newspaper Rock is on the way and worth the stop if you have the time.
- 4.Carry on about 22 miles past Newspaper Rock.
- 5.Watch for the sign reading “Entering Canyonlands National Park”.
- 6.We are about a mile past that sign, on the right. Look for the Needles Outpost sign before our private road.
Coming north from Monticello
- 1.Highway 191 north for 15 miles.
- 2.Turn left onto US Highway 211. If you reach the road for Needles Overlook you have gone a couple of miles too far.
- 3.Then as above — 211 west, past Newspaper Rock, and watch for our sign on the right after the national park sign.
When you turn in
- The paved section of our road is park property — no parking at the turnaround.
- Our property starts at the gravel. 10mph from there, and 5mph near the parking lot.
- Check in inside the store, before driving in to pick a site. Everyone, including return guests.
Before you set off
Fuel
Unleaded is available here. Diesel is not — fill up in Moab or Monticello.
Getting here
There is no public transport to the campground. You will need your own vehicle.
Signal
Effectively none. Download maps, and tell somebody your plans before you lose service.
Supplies
The store carries firewood, ice and shower tokens, 9am to 6pm. Groceries are best bought before you come.
