Canyonlands Needles Outpost is a privately owned business operating completely off-grid with a campground right outside the entrance of the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, only 1.5 miles from the parks’ visitors center. Needles Outpost combines the fun of rustic camping spots with a few modern conveniences, accommodating both RVs and tents as well as specialty listings such as teepees, glamping tents, and tentsile tent in the trees. The specialty listings can be found on both hipcamp and airbnb.
Services include gasoline, propane, a well-stocked general store with a few camping supplies, toiletries, ice, drinks, ice-cream, snacks, camping food, firewood. Amber and Caleb are the proprietors of the Needles Outpost providing guests with a private, safe and quiet campground with a bathhouse including flush toilets and pay showers. The store and bathhouse both run off of solar power. All water is purchased and hauled in 1,000 gallons at a time. We conserve water and charge a separate fee for showers to keep camping prices lower and guests have the option to purchase thus also helping us conserve water in the desert where water is a precious and scarce commodity.
Visitors staying with us experience our dark night sky where the stars and milky way are a breathtaking site to see. Our guests here at Needles Outpost fall asleep in quiet, peaceful surroundings with only soft desert sounds waking up to a symphony of natural morning light shining on the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.
Keep in mind this is a rugged camping experience not for the faint at heart. The desert is hot in the summer, the weather is unpredictable and you may experience our wild storms… You may hear coyotes, see spiders & other bugs, desert critters, snakes, and experience the annoying desert gnats at certain times of the day during the hotter summer season. You will want to bring bug spray, if you forgot we do sell it in our camp store.
If you stay with us you will get the experience of desert camping, wild, raw and rugged. It is an amazing experience to be had, with beautiful views and the feeling of freedom that is hard to find in your more civilized and populated locations.
We are a campground next to Canyonlands National Park Needles District. Hiking is very accessible. For those into 4 wheel driving, Elephant Hill, Lock Hart Basin, Beef Basin, Lavender and Davis Canyon are a short drive away. We have wonderful views & amazing sunsets for those who just want to relax & experience the peace & quiet.

My partner and I stopped at this outpost for supplies and a shower. They had everything we needed for camping and freshening up. The service was friendly and they had some great local knowledge. The location is stunning and next time we will definitely be camping here!
– TripAdvisorWe car camped at the Needles Outpost and found that the tent sites along the cliff face were really nice: flat tent pads, good fire rings, tables, and an AMAZING view especially at sunset. The manager in the office was super nice and we really enjoyed a quick chat and even found some useful items in their store that we needed. We can't wait to come back!
– TripAdvisorWe loved our stay at the Outpost...Caleb and Amber were very friendly and helpful. We tent camped next to a red bluff with amazing views of the area. We will stay here again for sure! So close to the park...one mile!
– TripAdvisorWe visited Needles Outpost a few weeks ago while we were on a three week camping trip through 13 different national parks and it was one of our absolutely favorite spots from the whole trip. The new management (Amber and Caleb) made us feel so warm and welcome! Their easy smiles and chatter made me feel right at home in the quaint little shop they have.
– TripAdvisorIncredibly beautiful and very hikeable area. The highlight definitely is the huge red rock right behind the campground that offers hours of climbing and exploring as well as far views into the Canyonlands.
