UPS is best. FedEx Express is reliable too. If you must use FedEx Ground, send it at least two weeks ahead.
Do not ship USPS. It will not arrive at the Outpost.
UPS may tell you this is not a valid address. Our drivers know where we are and have been delivering here for decades.
When can I pick it up?
During store hours, 9am to 6pm. The store is occasionally closed on Mondays, so check before you plan a Monday arrival. Email rather than phone — we do not have the service to answer calls at the store.
Do I need a reservation to stay?
Try booking online first. We keep places for Hayduke hikers even when the campground is full, so if nothing shows as available, ask during open hours. Sites start at $40 a night, and there may be an upgraded site free — the bell tent has a real bed in it.
What does the store carry?
Bottled water, cold drinks, sweet, salty and healthy snacks, ice cream. Basic cooking supplies — oils, salt, spices — and a stock of backpacking meals. Plus whatever we found interesting, anywhere from capers to ready-to-eat curry. We make milkshakes and smoothies.
Can I charge things?
Yes — on the porch or inside the store during open hours. There is no power in the campground itself.
Is there any signal?
Only at the store. There is a booster inside that picks up AT&T only; texts usually get through, calls are not guaranteed. WiFi is $5 a day or $10 for your whole stay, and $10 for anyone not camping. No streaming or large downloads — we are off-grid on satellite internet, and it exists so people can get a message out.
Anything not covered here, write to us before you set off — we read email in batches, so leave a couple of days.
