Needles Outpost Campground is ideally situated just 1.5 miles from the entrance to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. We're also about 1.5 hours from Moab & Arches, 2 hours from the Island in the Sky District, and about 37 miles from Hwy 191.


Please note that there is no public transportation to the campground, and while unleaded gasoline is available, diesel is not. Our campground is accessible without a 4WD vehicle. There is absolutely no cell service in the canyon, and GPS systems may be inaccurate by more than 20 miles. We strongly advise taking a screenshot of these directions before your journey.

  • Traveling south from Moab

    • Take Hwy 191 South for approximately 37 miles.
    • Turn right onto US Hwy 211 (not the turn for Needles Overlook, but the next right a couple of miles past that road).
    • Drive for 12 miles and consider stopping at Newspaper Rock if time permits.
    • Continue approximately 22 miles past Newspaper Rock.
    • Look for the sign that says "Entering Canyonlands National Park."
    • We are located about 1 mile past that sign on the right.
    • Watch for our sign for the Needles Outpost on the right before our private road.

  • Traveling north from Monticello

    • Take Hwy 191 North for 15 miles.
    • Turn left onto US Hwy 211 (if you see the road for Needles Overlook, you have gone a couple of miles too far).
    • Drive for 12 miles and consider stopping at Newspaper Rock if time permits.
    • Continue approximately 22 miles past Newspaper Rock.
    • Look for the sign that says "Entering Canyonlands National Park."
    • We are located about 1 mile past that sign on the right.
    • Watch for our sign for the Needles Outpost on the right before our private road.

  • When you get here...

    Once on our road, the paved section is park property no parking at the turn around. Our property starts at the gravel where you will need to go 10 mph, there are pot holes. SLOW DOWN to 5mph at the sign before the parking lot. Parking is to the immediate right next to the porch before the gas pumps. Please do not park at the pumps unless you need gasoline.
